Luqa Airport
Luqa airport is also commonly known as Malta International Airport (MLA). It is the only airport to service Malta and is located on the old RAF base ‘RAF Luqa’. It is situated between Luqa and Gudja, approximately 8 klm outside the capital city Valetta.
The airport opened as a fully operational airport in 1992 and now many major airlines fly into Malta.
Getting To And From Luqa Airport
Getting to and from Luqa airport is fairly straight forward and there are many different options to the mode of transport you can use for your airport transfer.
From 13 June 2009 there is now a direct coach service with Terravision, that provides transfers from Malta ‘Luqa’ airport to the most popular beach destination in Malta. The service will run from Malta ‘Luqa’ airport and will provide direct transfers to Bugibba-Qawra, St Julian’s and Sliema.
The coach departs from outside the arrivals hall at the airport and then stops at the following destinations:
Bugibba Qawra: Which is near Qawra Palace hotel – Dolmen Resort hotel, Topaz hotel (journey time 20 minutes)
Saint Julian’s: Which is near Le Meridien St Julian’s hotel – Juliani hotel – St George’s park hotel (journey time 40 minutes)
Sliema: Which is near the Milano Due hotel – Preluna hotel – Plaza hotel (journey time 60 minutes)

Car hire from Luqa airport is reasonably cheap especially if there is a few of you traveling, which helps cut the cost. There are a couple of car hire companies that always seem to provide good deals on car hire from Luqa airport.
